The Bahamas: Hurricane Dorian, September 2019

Hurricane Dorian made landfall on the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama in Northwest Bahamas. This storm has developed over the previous days into a slow moving and very dangerous hurricane. With anticipated winds of 140 mph accompanied by heavy rain and storm surges of lowlying areas, the Government of Bahamas, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and other international organisations have met daily to plan how to assess and support people affected. MapAction is deploying a team of three to work with CDEMA, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Government of Bahamas to provide geospatial analysis of the situation.
